95 Electric Blue [£5.49] |
Time for another hair review!
I wanted to make the most out of my blonde hair, so I thought why not temporarily go blue?
I wanted to make the most out of my blonde hair, so I thought why not temporarily go blue?
I have tried dark blue on my hair before (when my hair was brown?), but it turned out just black =___=
I didn't want to stay blue for a long time, so I turned to XXL's ultra brights since it's semi permanent.
I did a quick experiment on photoshop to see how the blue would turn out:
TBH, I never thought bright/light blue would look so good. I always thought if you want to go for a bright colour, it's better if it has dark hue or op fro the dip dye instead. Until I saw these:
L to R: Destiny Godley, Qiu Qiu, Song Ji Eun, Aquamarin, TOP, Hiromi, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Jade Thirlwall. |
Can I say that the blue dip dye is ultra love?! I mean it looks so cool *___*
Anyways back to the review haha.
Bought two boxes because my hair just passed my collar bone, they come into tubes so I guess it'll be more practical to use.
I began applying this to damp hair and I found it quite difficult because usually when my hair is damp it's weaker, also I usually end up with uneven patches since I can't see the back =___=
Once I applied this onto my hair, I could see my hair was already turning blue, like blue blue. I finished both tubes, wrapped my hair into a plastic wrap and left it for 30 minutes.
After rinsing my hair, I was so shocked because my hair was blue. Like, FUCKING BLUE THAT I ALMOST SHAT BRICKS.
Ok here are the photos:
Before:
P.S please ignore the face and focus on the hair only. It's the only latest photo I had before I dyed it Blue. Current colour was ash blonde. |
After:
The colour was so fucking intense that I cannot! Like wowow I felt like an anime character xD
I turned up into university and my classmates was like "WOW!" "Can't stop staring" "OMG you're Blue" etc .
So yeah the colour is good because I used two tubes. ^__^
HOWEVER, I still had blonde patches near my roots, noticable at the back of my hair, although that's my own fault =_=
BUT the real test, how long does it last?!
The product itself should last around 8 washes, so I'm still testing it out!
1st wash VS 3rd Wash |
You can see how after the 3rd wash, the colour goes lighter, less intense. Also noticed that my hair is getting frizzier and dyer but that could be from other factors but who knows? ;/
SO, to end my conclusion, XXL Ultra Brights is a good product to use of you want to experiment, if you want a long term colour, I highly suggest another brand.
Application wise, if you want to get an even colour, ask someone to help! Otherwise, this is most ideal to use for dip dye.
So, I'm happy with this product and my time as an anime character ^___^
Update*
Here's a photo after the 8th wash!
Turns out it was the dye that made my hair more dyer and frizzy that it caused so many spilt ends, which I had to trim off in the end ;/
I stopped using their shine sachets and reverted back to my regular conditioner (Herbal Essence Fresh Balance & Tresemme Repair Mask) and now my hair is in better condition.
You can see most of my blonde is back, most noticable at the roots (yellow roots T_T) and ends of my hair. However most of the blue still remains. Therefore making my hair look rather odd (most days I wear a beanie to cover up).
I think if my hair was platinum beforehand, it would have caused a nicely washed out effect.
So yes, it is ideal to bleach bath beforehand but overall it's up to you.
Also, I realized the product is over priced for one tube, I heard from Directions you can get a pot for £3 and the colour will last longer ;/ Then again, I was only looking for a temporary colour but still the price could have been cheaper.
Will keep updating this post once the blue is completely out, still on the 8th wash atm.
Update!
At my 12/13 wash and the blue is still there that it gives off a green tinge! :( Looks really horrible with my black & ginger roots
I used Fudge's Purple Shampoo so the ash blonde turns into a silvery tone that matches with the blue.
Nothing can hide the ginger roots T_T
06/02/2014 Update:
After the 14th wash, I gave up and dyed my haor completely black.
I read that semi-permenants last around 8 - 16 washes but the fading caused some of my hair to go green with blue and it seriously didn't look nice with my black/ginger roots.

Last webcam selfie with the blue/green/blond hair. |
